Shani Shingnapur is situated in Ahamadnagar District.The presiding deity of Shinganapur, Sri Shaneshwara or Shanidev- the personification of the planet Saturn is worshipped with utmost reverence and devotion by multitudes of people from all over the world. The spectacle of the deity in black stone is overwhelming. A unique aspect of this place is, that no temple structure houses the Shanidev. There is only a simple platform on which stands the swayambhu idol, in black stone.

The houses of this village & surrounding area don't have any doors & windows. Because here thieves are supposed to become blind immediately if they steal.The door-less architecture makes its presence felt right from the famous temple Sri Shaneshwar Graha Devatha. Shanishwara safeguards the houses and the villagers abstain from meat, liquor and theft for fear of the Lord. The only barrier to enter a house are curtains which keep out stray animals. People believe that nobody dares to steal anything because they are punished by Shanishwara, the local deity, and the owner has always got the stolen things back - if any such thing ever happens.

Devotees generally wear a saffron-coloured attire and have a head bath in the holy water close to the temple before entering it. There is no priest to perform the pooja. The pooja is carried out in the form of offering Pradakshinams - of going around the idol a couple of times, chanting specific prayers such as Shani gayathri and slokas. Devotees also perform Abhishekam with water and gingelly oil.

There is also a belief that if a person is bitten by a snake in Shinganapur and is brought near the idol and a ritual is performed, the poison gets neutralised. If you are suffering from Sade sati ,Dhaiya or have a negative effect of planet Shani (Saturn) in your horoscope , then this is the place you must visit .

Legend

As per a legend , It is said that long long ago there were floods and one idol came floating  in the flood. It was struck to a Bari tree. The cowboys went to the bank of Panas Canal at a distance of 100-150 meters in order to feed these cattle, soon after the flood had subsided and saw this idol. One of the boys picked up a stick and  pricked into the idol with a force. The stick got pierced in the idol and it was a great wonder to see blood oozing from the wound. You can see  the mark of the wound on the idol even today at Shinganapur.On hearing this all the people of all ages rushed to the site  of the  idol  to  see  the  miracle  with their own eyes. One of the Bhaktas who had seen this miracle had a dream where in  he  heard Shani Maharaj saying, " The place where you saw the miracle of my physical manifestation is where you take me and establish me." He reported  his  dream  to  others  in  the  village.  There  after everybody went to the site in their bullock carts  and  tried  to lift  the  idol  but  in  vain.  The idol refused to move from its place. The people of the village thus returned disappointed. The devotee on the next day again dreamt in which he was told, " The persons who are related should take  me  carrying  on  two  black bullocks who are also related as mama bhacha so that I shall come with pleasure. My establishment also should be performed by  mama bhacha only. Therefore  with  two  Black-bullocks every body went along with mama bhacha. The  idol, which  was  not lifted earlier ,was easily lifted and brought by mama bhacha as per dream.The shrine is open air, without roof. In fact there is no enclosing structure in 1990, an east facing multi deity temple was built west of the Shani idol. The premises also contain a tomb of one saint - Udasi Baba. Shri Shanaishwara Public Trust was established in 1963.
